Behind the Books Bi-Weekly Update 10 November 2025
Hello! This is my bi-weekly update on publishing. I hope you haven’t missed me too much, but here I am again with another catch-up for all you wonderful people who are dying to get into the industry just as much as I am. So, without further ado, here’s another segment of the blind leading the blind!
Nothing much to report this week, really. I’ve been applying here and there, casting the net quite wide, but still to no avail. It’s disheartening, to say the least. I spoke to my mentor, which really helped; it’s so nice to have someone encouraging you when you don’t quite have the energy to encourage yourself.
Someone on LinkedIn was kind enough to share an outline of the cover letter that got them a job in publishing, and I’ve been using that as a baseline to see if it makes a difference. I’m so grateful to people who make resources accessible in this tough industry, especially those who’ve already made it and still take the time to help others. It’s exactly what I’m trying to do here, even if I don’t have the job title to match just yet!
I’m attending an SYP pub quiz soon, so hopefully I’ll meet some others who are going through the same thing, that might be the encouragement I need. I’ve also signed up for two virtual Q&A sessions, one with HarperCollins and another with Penguin Random House, which I’m hoping will be insightful. I’ll report back next time with what I learn!
It’s been a tough week, but then again, that seems to come with the territory when you’re chasing something you really care about. I just feel so restless with it all.
And to all my lost bookworms,
Stay Steadfast x
