What Writers Read: 35 Writers on Their Favourite Book by Pandora Sykes - 3/5

This was such a precious little book, easy to read, yet thoroughly enjoyable. It was exactly what I expected, in the best possible way. There was something lovely, almost adorable, about seeing even the greatest of writers look up to someone else, reminding me that we all have people we admire, and that perhaps someone admires us too.

I expected mostly literary classics, Wuthering Heights, Animal Farm, Ulysses, but the list was wonderfully diverse. Some authors mentioned comic books, entire personal libraries, or cherished childhood reads. Often, it came down to circumstance or the first book they truly loved. Every choice had a beautiful, personal reason. Books really find you when you need them most.

It was thrilling to hear from authors I already read, not through their characters, but as themselves, sharing a piece of who they are. Even the children’s books sounded compelling; I’d happily read any just to see why they were so brilliant. After all, there’s a fangirl in all of us, no matter our own literary accomplishments.

Human beings can be really cute sometimes.
